Balance
Doesn’t look like balance--
Not usually.
More squiggle
Than straight line.
Teetering
And tottering.
The thing
Rather than its picture.
Balance
Is everything
And its opposite--
The two poles
Pulling the pendulum.
The oil well
And the earthquake.
Like clapping hands.
Like kids on swings.
No light without dark.
No see without saw.
And it’s messy, too--
More jungle than zoo.
The body rots,
And the flower grows;
And that’s the way
That balance goes.
Doesn’t look like balance--

More squiggle

Teetering

The thing
