My wife is jealous.
But more so, she’s protective--
Of us and of me.

Every now and then
She mentions an ex of mine--
What a stupid ass.

I hope Thibodeau
Has someone to remind him
Like she reminds me.

We don’t talk about
Old lovers
Or the sex-appeal
Of strangers
And celebrities.

Ours is not
One of those relationships.

We reimagine our memories--
Building the other in.

Soaking in colored glass
Like an infusion.

A hint of lemon.
Vanilla.
Tobacco.

Ours is a dusty bottle--

Wiped clean and
Opened.

Poured and drunk
In a private room.

Because that’s how we remember it.
