I am a teacher--
Reading and writing.
But I am also a man--
A reader and a writer.
And as such,
Conflicted.
Only now--
Well into my own life
Are either of these things possible:
Reading or writing.
Only through living--
Wading through the mess of things--
Can we develop voice.
Or empathy.
Only through unlearning
Or forgetting.
Losing the rule
And finding the reason.
Until then
All we have are systems
And formulas.
Until then,
All we have
Is mathematics.
